Vatsalya opened in February 2006 and has been functional ever since, housing and treating thousands of animals. As a one stop treatment center for all homeless stray animals and birds in the Mangalore area, dogs, cats, cows, sheep, pigs and birds have received emergency care, surgery and long term care.
Vatsalya includes various wards dedicated to different types of treatments and care.
Ward Lassy
Donated by Late Mr. Katapadi Ganesh Shenoy in memory of his dog Lassy, this unit has the operation theatre, postoperative wards, staff quarters, Out Patient Department and kitchen. At a time 75 dogs can be housed in this ward. Currently this ward is being used to house street dogs undergoing Animal Birth Control (ABC) surgeries and postoperative care, those undergoing amputations and oncological care
Ward Sneha
Donated by Mr. K. R. Ramesh, this ward houses dogs subjected to abuse or accidents which has left them permanently disabled
Ward Misty
Donated by our Managing Trustee Dr. Ganesh S Pai, this ward houses abandoned, old and sick dogs and dogs put up for adoptions
Ward Dayakara
This ward is dedicated to dogs affected by canine distemper, rabies and other diseases. This ward was donated by Corporation Bank, Mangalore
Ward Dhruvtara
Dhruvtara it is a primary cattery inaugurated in October 2008. This ward houses injured and sick cats, cats under post-operative care and abandoned kittens. This ward was donated by Mr. Diwakar Bhat & Family
Ward Mathrachaya
Inaugurated on 13/05/2012 as a part of world mothers day, this facility is one of its kind for pregnant dogs, for delivering and nursing young ones under our constant care. This ward is dedicated to preventing mother dogs from littering in rains, floods or other harmful conditions, that risks their and their puppies' lives
Ward Garuda
Donated by Dharmendra & Giselle Mehta, this ward is exclusively a rescue & rehabilitation area for sick and injured birds. Once fully healed, birds are released from this ward
